Virginia Kassay, 42, Summerfield (Greensboro), NC

Virginia is being recognized for her determination to help her daughter Emily, who suffers from autism.  She is reaching out to her daughter, who doesn’t speak, through their common love of art and color. When Virginia paints on a canvas, Emily comes alive and she even learned to point. Now Virginia uses her painting to educate others on autism and the power of being positive.
